When building your deck, use 1” x 8” Ipe decking along the perimeter of the deck. These 1” x 8” boards have been cut specifically for this purpose. The corners of the boards are eased. Easing a corner gives it a gently rounded edge. The rounded edges are safer and more comfortable to the touch. Shorter lengths, 8 to 11 feet are priced at less than $4.28 per linear foot, medium lengths, 12 to 15 feet are $5.35 per foot. Incorporating longer sections into your deck design gives you more of a seamless look, without sacrificing strength. For the longest boards, choose a length between 16 and 20 feet, at $5.83 per linear foot.
