If strength and beauty is what you are after in constructing your deck's railing system, this 2 x 2 Ipe spindle is part of your solution.

Because Ipe is hard, dense, and resistant to the harshest elements, it can withstand the harshest sunlight, the wettest, most humid conditions, and the peskiest pests. These spindles, like all of our other Ipe products, are made from South American Tabebuia hardwoods, and have the added benefit of being an environmentally-responsible choice.

Ipe has many advantages over pine for railing systems -- in fact, for all decking needs -- because, unlike pine, it does not have to be chemically treated to prevent rotting or painted to disguise knots and blemishes. Ipe is knot-free and naturally beautiful, with a fine grain and rich color.

These spindles can be used to construct all or part of your railing system. You can use a penetrating oil such as Penofin to preserve Ipe's rich, natural color, or you can choose to let it weather naturally to a warm sliver-grey patina.

These 2 x 2 spindles (net measurement is an industry standard 1-1/2 inches x 1-1/2 inches) are priced at $1.10 per linear foot for boards ranging from three to seven feet in length. The price for boards between eight and longer call for a quote.
Whether or not you use Ipe products for all or part of of your deck, these hardy yet elegant boards, produced and harvested with environmentally-responsible practices that support sustainable and renewable forestry practices, will be an attractive addition to your home.
