The 5/4" x 6" Ipe edge grooved decking board is a beautiful choice for a residential or commercial deck. Ipe is a richly colored, fine grained wood from South America. It is the ideal choice for exterior projects because its high density make it very hard and resistant to warping. The Ipe wood is also resistant to insects and rot, and it has a high fire safety rating.
Ipe, from Everlasting Hardwoods, is a sustainable resource and an environmentally responsible choice for decking material. Everlasting Hardwoods is part of the Overseas Hardwoods Company (OHC). The majority of OHC's Ipe lumber comes from cultured plantings. Customers can even ask for and receive certificates of lumber origin. Ipe is also an environmentally friendly choice because it does not need chemical preservatives prevent rot. It has a 25 year durability rating, which means it should have to be replaced for at least that long.
The 5/4" x 6" Ipe edge grooved decking board has all four sides surfaced and the corners are eased. The 6" width gives a traditional plank decking appearance, and the 1" thickness makes the deck stronger. The pregrooved sides are ideal for use with hidden fasteners. Lengths of 8' to 11' are $3.37 per linear foot (LF). 12' to 15' board lengths are $3.54/LF.
If you wish to keep the rich color of the freshly cut wood, you can apply a penetrating oil to the wood. Otherwise, the wood will weather naturally to a silvery-gray. A deck made from Ipe wood will increase the beauty and value of any home.
